Unlike gasoline engines, the Ford Powerstroke diesel engine relies on oil pressure and temperature to ignite the fuel mixture instead of a spark and so requires a precise fuel monitoring. The Injector Control Pressure Sensor in the 6.0L Powerstroke detects the pressure of the oil feeding the injectors and allows the computer to make adjustments for performance and efficiency. But when the sensor starts to fail it can cause hard-starting, misfires, and a loss of power.

If you have started to notice hard starting that requires more cranks than normal along with misfires, loss of power, and poor fuel economy you may have a failing Powerstroke ICP sensor. We recommend a full diagnostic including scanning for engine codes that indicate a faulty sensor. Replacement is easy and is enough for most home mechanics to complete.
