   What is so bad about the 6.0L Powerstroke oil cooler?

One of the most well known issues of the 6.0 Powerstroke is the Oil Cooler. The 6.0L Powerstroke requires significant oil cooling, so Ford equipped it with a liquid-on-liquid oil cooler. Unfortunately, this cooler can become clogged with debris or rupture, which leads to overheating and subsequent failure of the EGR cooler. Often leading to oil and coolant mixing. We often recommend one of our Complete Solution Kits which covers all the other issues, along with an oil cooler. However, if a customer is just needing an oil cooler, always recommend our Sinister Diesel Oil Cooler. A failing Oil Cooler can often lead to a failing EGR Cooler, which leads us to the next most common issue.

What makes the 6.0 EGR Cooler so bad?

For many owners of the 6.0 Powerstroke, a malfunctioning EGR cooler can lead to catastrophic outcomes. When the EGR cooler begins to leak, it can result in severe and costly repairs, a lesson often learned the hard way. Each time the EGR valve activates, it consumes a significant amount of coolant, which manifests as white smoke from the exhaust. This process creates steam pressure that can stretch the head studs, potentially leading to hydro-locked engines, blown head gaskets, and turbo contamination.

What causes low fuel pressure on the 6.0L Powerstroke?

One of the most frequent complains we hear from 6.0 Powerstroke owners is low fuel pressure. This issue often stems from the factory fuel pressure regulator's original spring becoming weak over time. As the spring loses tension, it allows fuel pressure to drop below the necessary 45psi for the injectors, leading to performance problems and potential damage to the injectors and fuel system.
